mystery food encounter 1

First breakfast in Japan we just decided to grab at the breakfast buffet in the hotel. OK, eggs, potato wedges, pancakes - check. Porridge, pineapple slices, soba noodles - check. Weird cup of "natto" check. OK, so we don't know what this stuff is in case you might so we open it up. Smells kinda funky and looks like slimy baby spider eggs. Marc tries one and we actually have the expression on his face captured on video if we can figure out how to compress it enough and upload it from the video camera. There are two tiny packets inside, one of mustard and one of soy sauce. We mix them in and Marc tries again. This time curiosity and confusion come across as it's just such a wierd taste and he takes a 3rd and 4th try also before deciding "yeah it really is too disgusting to eat - Anita, you try!" No way, she's not a sucker, she's smarter than that and doesn't need to do anything she doesn't want to. She's here to have fun and not get sick at the same time!... well, OK, pass it over:

Natto = fermented soy beans. Nuff said, fermented.
